This course is a creative approach to woodcarving as a means of personal and artistic expression. It is an immersion in the world of Bas Relief, its techniques and composition options. Sweet chestnut wood will be our main material.
After an introduction to techniques and raw materials, each participant will prepare his own project, accompanied and supported step by step by the trainers, in an atmosphere of friendship, cooperation and mutual help among all participants.
The course is designed for those who want to get deeper into the subject, create something unique and bigger. With or without experience in working with wood, what matters is the desire to do something, train your persistence and work on your strength of arms!
From here will be born pieces inspired by your own experience in this very special village or projects that you’ve been wanting to accomplish for a long time. It will be a course in complete immersion with wood and your project. The reason we have chosen chestnut wood (castanea sativa) to work with is because it has steady growth, it’s hard but forgiving while working with it and allows great finishes.
Carving, sculpture and bas-relief in wood are traditionally related to the sacred art or joinery in the manufacture of furniture. But this art can and should also take other paths, through new projects and contents, whether figurative or abstract, simple or in association with other materials and colors.
